Yoga Movement Gives Back to Society

"To build an inclusive community where everyone is a part of it, and not apart from it." ~ SPD

"The more loving care you give yourself, the more love you have to give others." ~ Ishta Yoga

In the month of March, Yoga Movement (YM) will be buddying up with Tiong Bahru studio neighbours, 40 Hands Coffee, to support SPD’s vision of helping individuals with physical, sensory, and learning disabilities develop their skills to their fullest potential, aiding them in becoming self-reliant and independent.

SPD, formerly the Society for the Physically Disabled, works toward the integration of people with disabilities into mainstream society through a multitude programmes ranging from rehabilitation and education to employment, training and consultation.

YM teachers, Daphne and Mel, will be leading complimentary multi-levelled yoga classes on March 17 and 18 with a focus on good alignment, core engagement, body awareness and developing good balance.

Attendees who sign up and donate during these sessions will also receive a hookup card to redeem a free coffee or juice at 40 Hands Coffee right across the street as a small thanks and gesture of appreciation!

For those who would like to attend but can't, you can still give back by donating at each of Yoga Movement's six studios until the end of March. All proceeds will go to SPD to support their work in helping people with disabilities live the best lives that they can!

Dates: 17 & 18 Mar 2018 (Sat, Sun), 8-9am

Venue: Yoga Movement Tiong Bahru, 11 Yong Siak St

About The Partners

SPD focuses on helping people with disabilities maximise their potential and integrating them into mainstream society. Through over 20 programmes that encompass early intervention, therapy, vocational training, assistive technology, day care, as well as educational, employment and social service support, SPD serves, in all, 9,400 people with physical, sensory and learning disabilities, helping them become self-reliant and independent. The organisation was renamed Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD) in May 1998 and subsequently to just SPD in July 2014 to better reflect the work that we do - serving people beyond physical disabilities.

Based on the universal truth that fitness isn’t just about gaining strength and flexibility or perfecting poses on the mat, Yoga Movement is a lifestyle that extends beyond the studio spaces: the YM Life. Wherever you are in your yoga journey, we’re all about keeping it real, accessible and respecting your individuality so you can stay true to yourself and find balance in your life, no matter what you love.

No fads. No frills. No fuss.

With the opening of 40 Hands in October 2010, the beginnings of a coffee revolution started to brew. Product of the combined talents of Harry Grover and the Spa Esprit Group, 40 Hands burst onto the scene as one of the very first coffee joints in Singapore to offer a taste of Third Wave Coffee.

Its mission: to set the benchmark for a new style of neighbourhood cafe, promote sustainability by opting for direct trade and offering delicious specialty coffee made with super fresh beans. Believing that it takes 40 hands to produce a single cup of coffee from bean to cup, 40 Hands is a firm advocate of the specialty coffee movement, championing sustainability, coffee knowledge and appreciation.
