Raffles Singers, established in 2001 and directed by award-winning conductor Toh Ban Sheng, is a premier local choir comprising alumni singers from the Raffles schools, many of whom are choral conductors, voice and music teachers, and experienced independent singers.
Raffles Singers is proud to present our annual choral concert entitled Raffles Singers Presents: Retrospect.
The concert repertoire commemorates some of the most prodigious composers of their times. Composition works spanning centuries of music from the Middle Ages to the contemporary are juxtaposed with each other to draw out musical similarities that transcend time.
Delight in the choir’s versatility as we bring you songs ranging from folk tunes and spirituals to sacred music. Lesser-known works by famous composers such as Pachelbel (of Canon in D fame) and Bernstein (composer of Westside Story) will be presented.
This concert will also be the world premiere of Wait For You, a local composition by Benjamin Low, a member of Raffles Singers who read music at Boston University. Wait For You explores the Singlish language and accent, bringing a distinctively Singaporean flavour to the evening’s repertoire.
Raffles Singers would like to extend this invitation to you to go on a musical journey through time with us. We look forward to seeing you there!
